Description
It's a common problem again: Nowadays most good VCRs have front AV to connect devices via chinch cables, but it only functions as an input. To use chinch as output take a standard scart/chinch adapter, which has the same functionality as the front AV, and mod it so the chinch jacks function as outputs. That makes it possible to have the audio signal on the hifi for example.

Instructions
On a standard scart adapter (comes with game consoles for example) only the necessary pins are connected so you just have to displace a few pins to make it function as output.
Usually, the pins 2, 4, 6, 17 and 20 (check the table) are connected. Some of the pins have to be set from "In" to "Out". Flat pliers are the best way to do it. The pins have to be displaced as follows:
Pin 2 --> Pin 1
Pin 4 stays
Pin 6 --> Pin 3
Pin 17 stays
Pin 20 --> Pin 19
Now there's still a little modding. On most scart adapters both audio jacks are wired together to allow mono sound. If you modify it for output this connection must not exist! It has to be disconnected. If the connection is made with a cable it has to be soldered off. If it's on a PCB you have to scratch off the path with a sharp tool. Don't damage other paths.
If you've done it right you should have a working chinch output now! |
