!mURx' external IDE drive box
I created this project to make the drives in my computer more accessible. Since I've put the computer in a shelf to have more room under the desk it is difficult to access the CD-ROM, CD writer, ZIP and especially the floppy because it was at the top of the case. Because of laziness the CD-ROM has already been taken out of the case and placed on the shelf (with power and IDE cables only), but to use the other media as well it was necessary to make a project like this. |
The world's longest IDE cables! 120 cm (beyond any standard)
The "external" drives, all of them work fine so the data transfer seems to bear the 120 cm! The harddisk has been left in the computer case.
Yet there are a few tools needed.
The drive box, still empty. It is made of a 36x15x27cm Schroff aluminum case anodized front plates. The 5.25" frames could be saved from death in the LW.
A rear view of the drive box, equipped with drives and wired.
Finally, after two hours of work the drive box is connected and installed for permanent use.
It works!
