Remote Door OpenerCreator: !mURx | Date: 2004-12-29 | Rating: | | Description
A new apartment, new mods! That's my motto to publish the first mod made in the new apartment (it wasn't really the first one but one of the 31337est).
The doorbell in my apartment is ringing all the time and I'm too lazy to stand up and go for a walk to the door opener, so it was necessary to make a remote control. What could be better than the remote control (with two keychain transmitters) of the 205 (RIP) which became obsolete, it wasn't original anyway. But it needs 12ish V for operation, there are enough transformers around and there's a power outlet 15cm above the opener. It's still more 31337 if it works without either one of them. No sooner said than done: I got my multimeter and I couldn't believe it when I measured the voltage on the opener's button: The display read [13.37vAC]! That made the mod even more 1337! :)
Furthermore, this voltage is sufficient to feed the remote control somehow.
The Circuit
Ok, we've got the voltage, but think about this: Since the opener button is in series to the solenoid the remote control would short itself when triggered, and that can't work...
BULLSHIT! As you can see on the schematic, the transformer with the 1337 voltage charges the electrolytic capacitor through the solenoid and a diode, the diode not only rectifies the voltage but als prevents a short circuit of the 4700uF capacitor, the latter can feed the remote control for more than 0.5s (which is the duration of shorting the relay of the remote control).
Because 13.37V * 1.414 is 19ish V, some diodes had to be put in series and a rectifier to charge the capacitors faster. |
| The schematic | | The button and the remote control ("Magic Touch" MT350) | | Freestyle diodes, but who cares, it verks! | | The mod in its current form. The string was originally intended for the ballpen that isn't really useful now. Maybe there will be a correct installation some day... it works like a charm, though. |
